Whether through disability, illness, injury, chronic pain, aging, or unexpected circumstances, life can begin to feel smaller, harder, and more limiting than it once did. For many, the challenge isn't just physical...It's emotional. It's watching life continue around you while wondering what comes next. It's questioning what's still possible. It's struggling to recognize the woman you used to be. Self Inspired Apparel® was created as a reminder that your story is not over. That your diagnosis is not your identity. That your circumstances do not define your worth. And that there is still a life waiting to be lived.
Self Inspired Apparel® was founded by Dr. Sue May, a disabled veteran whose personal journey with arthritis and chronic health conditions revealed a critical need in the fashion apparel industry. After years of struggling with buttons, zippers, and restrictive clothing that made dressing a daily challenge, Dr. Sue realized that if she was facing these obstacles, millions of other women were too. She set out to create a brand that would restore dignity, independence, and confidence to women navigating similar challenges. What began as a personal mission became a movement. Today, Dr. Sue leads the brand committed to serving women with adaptive needs, and anyone who believes that fashion should adapt to them, not the other way around.
Our Approach to Responsible Apparel
We believe that feeling good in what you wear should extend beyond how it looks and feels. Thoughtful choices are woven into the way we approach our apparel, from the materials we select to the processes used to bring each piece to life.
Our collections incorporate carefully chosen fabrics including TENCEL™, organic cotton, combed and washed cotton, and bamboo, selected for their comfort, quality, and more responsible attributes. We prioritize certified organic products and seek out less harmful production methods, including water-based printing processes.
As we continue to grow, so does our commitment to making thoughtful and responsible choices throughout our collections. We believe meaningful progress comes through intention, continuous learning, and a willingness to create better wherever we can.
